A Liverpool woman has died from injuries sustained during a car accident on Sunday afternoon in Liverpool, according to Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to Oswego Road between Rosewood Place and Willowbrook Drive around 1:30 p.m. to investigate a three-car accident.
Deputies reported a Chrylser Sebring, driven by 42-year-old Muhammad Baqir of Liverpool, was driving north on Oswego Road when it crossed into the southbound lane and side-swiped a Honda CRV.
Baqir then continued northbound in the southbound lane, driving head-on into a Ford Escort, killing 34-year-old Meagan Patterson of Liverpool. Four other people were hurt in the crash. They are 35-year-old Lance Patterson, 10-year-old Olivia Patterson, 2-year-old Sophia Patterson and 14-year-old Justin Root. They are all in serious condition at University Hospital.
The crash sent debris all over the road, and a section of Oswego Road was closed after the accident.
Witnesses said Baqir was operating erratically prior to the collision. Baqir and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
Baqir has now been charged with vehicular manslaughter in the 2nd degree, driving while under the influence of drugs and aggravated unlicensed operator in the 3rd degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Town of Clay Court on Sunday night.
Rescue crews from the Moyers Corner Frie Department and NOVA Ambulance spent approximately 30 minutes extricating the occupants from the Ford Escort.
The Onondaga County Sherrif's Office Accident Investigation Team is currently processing the scene.
