Oneida County man dies on black diamond trail at Gore Mountain

Thu, 10 Apr 2014 23:08:46 GMT — The Warren County Sheriff's Office says a 20-year-old Oneida County man died after he lost control on a ski trail at Gore Mountain Ski Resort and hit a tree stump.Lt. Steven Stockdale says Nicholas Hansen, 20, of Marcy was skiing with his mother and a family member about 10:45 a.m. Thursday when he lost control on slush and over-corrected. He was wearing a helmet.Gore officials said the skier was on the Chatiemac Trail. That's a black diamond trail, rated as most difficult. The Albany Times Union newspaper reports Gore Marketing Manager Emily Stanto said "it's the hardest kind of day for us.""We are deeply saddened," she said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."
