Onondaga County has reached a "tentative agreement" with a new county health commissioner, but will not reveal who that person is or where he or she is from.
Deputy County Executive Ann Rooney revealed that the county is in the final stages of negotiations with a new health commissioner after a nationwide search following the April resignation of Dr. Cynthia Morrow.
The County Legislatureâ??s Health Committee gave its approval to paying the new commissioner $173,021. Dr. Morrow earned $172,450. Rooney said the salary is in line with what a health commissioner would be paid for a community the size of Onondaga County.
Rooney said the new health commissioner is "eminently qualified" to assume the position.
Dr. Morrow resigned over a disagreement with a decision by County Executive Joanne Mahoney to move the Division of Child and Maternal Services out of the Health Department.
