Onondaga County Law Day honors 150th Anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation

2013 Law Day

Middle and high school students from all over Central New York got their day in court during the Onondaga County Law Day celebration.

The day opened with a ceremony presided over by New York State Supreme Court Justice Anthony J. Paris.

The theme of this yearâ??s Law Day was â??Realizing the Dream: Equality for All,â?? and students listened intently as Judge Paris told them about the struggle for equal rights in the United States.

After the opening ceremony, students were able to sit in on presentations by local judges, FBI agents and other public officials.

Students were also treated to a presentation by Reverend LeRoy Glenn Wright, a former Freedom Rider.

The Freedom Riders were civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated south starting 1961.
