Onondaga County lawmakers reject two ideas for Route 81

Onondaga County lawmakers approved a resolution Tuesday that rejects two ideas for Route 81.

The resolution opposes ideas of cutting off route 81 through the city and rerouting traffic onto 481. It also opposes turning Route 81 into street-level boulevard.

Lawmakers are open to other options the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council is considering, including a downtown tunnel, and plans range in cost from $500 million to more than $2 billion.

There will be another public meeting on what to do with 81 on May 21st at the Oncenter.
