Onondaga county probation officer suspended, charged with computer trespass

An Onondaga County Probation Officer has been suspended without pay and faces charges for allegedly using a county probation database inappropriately.

County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced that County Probation Officer Juan Cruz will be arraigned in Syracuse City Court on Thursday morning.

Cruz faces charges stemming from "inappropriate use of county probation database," Mahoney said in a statement.

Mahoney says the County Executive and Probation Commissioner Andrew Sicherman requested an investigation after Sicherman noticed irregularities in Cruz's computer use. The charges are the result of the investigation.

Cruz is charged with two felony counts of computer trespass and two misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of a computer.

Cruz has been suspended without pay from his job as a probation officer, according to Mahoney.
