Onondaga County Sheriff's deputy injured in Route 57 crash

The crash scene Friday morning.

An Onondaga County Sheriffâ??s deputy is out of the hospital after he was involved in a crash near Liverpool Friday morning.

The sheriffâ??s office tells CNY Central that just after 10:00 a.m. Deputy Michael Quigley was driving his police cruiser north on County Route 57 (Oswego Road) near the intersection with the Liverpool Bypass when he collided with a car driven by 27-year-old Jennifer Vermetti. Deputies say Vermetti was turning left into Route 57 from the Bypass when she was struck by Quigley on the driverâ??s side door of her 2005 Nissan Altima.

Deputies say both Quigley and Vermitti were taken to Upstate University Hospital by ambulance for treatment of head and neck injuries, but they have since been released. Vermitti had to be extricated from her car because of the damage to her door. Police say Quigley was not headed to an emergency and did not have his lights or siren on.

An accident investigation team is looking into the exact cause of the crash. Deputies say both drivers were wearing seat belts. No tickets have been issued at this time.

Route 57 north was shut down for a couple of hours while police and emergency crews worked at the crash scene. It has since reopened.
