Onondaga County Sheriff's Office investigates reports of unattended child

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office has an alert out about a young girl who was seen walking by herself Tuesday morning.

Deputies took calls around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning about a toddler who looked to be between 3 and 5 years old that was seen walking around Merrit Drive, River Road and Doyle Road in Lysander. According to the callers, she was wearing a pink puffy coat with fur lining the hood and pink or brown boots with fur. She had dirty blonde hair, worn in a pony tail, and was carrying a pink backpack with a doll sticking out from the back.

One caller, who said they had brief contact with the child before contacting authorities, said the girl mentioned she was from Florida and recently moved here.

The Sheriff's Office doesn't have any missing child reports from this area right now and says there's a possibility the girl was being used in some sort of scam or criminal surveillance scheme.

Deputies say they located the child at her home unharmed and are still investigating.

Anyone who has information regarding the situation or who was in the area and saw something of interest is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 315-435-2111.
