Onondaga County Sheriff's Office investigating officer involved shooting on Aitchison Road

Onondaga County deputies are investigating an officer involved shooting on Aitchison Road in the Town of Onondaga.

The shooting happened around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday night.

Investigators say an Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a possible domestic violence call, and when they arrived on the scene, they found the suspect sitting in a car in the driveway of the home.

When a deputy approached the car, the suspect got out and waved a handgun in his face, prompting the deputy to call for backup. Deputies say the suspect ran into the garage while they were waiting for backup.

When backup arrived, investigators say the suspect fired a shot from inside the garage. The deputies then entered the garage and the suspect pointed a handgun at them. Investigators say the suspect was then shot by the deputies.

Currently, the suspect's name and condition are not being released.

Deputies say the incident is still under investigation.

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh will hold a press conference regarding the shooting Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
