An Oswego couple is facing charges following an assault.

Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say 19-year-old Tyler Purchas, of 545 County Route 51A Bldg. 4, hit a woman in the head and put his hands around her neck, choking her to the point of dizziness. He's also accused of breaking two chairs during the attack.

Purchas is charged with criminal mischief and strangulation. He was arraigned in the Town of Volney Court and sent to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $3,000 bond.

While they were arresting him, deputies encountered resistance from Purchas's girlfriend. Deputies say 19-year-old Christina Demmerle started yelling profanities at them. When she was asked to go back in the house, deputies say she continued to yell profanities and then hit a deputy with a purse before punching them in the mouth. Deputies say she continued to kick her feet, pull her arms away and try to roll away as deputies were handcuffing her.

Demmerle is charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration and harassment. She was arraigned in Scriba Town Court and sent to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $250 cash or $500 bond.
