Overnight crash kills one person in Manlius

Manlius Police block off a portion of Pompey Center Road Monday morning.

One person is dead after an overnight car crash in the Town of Manlius.

Manlius Police Captain Brian Ackerman tells CNY Central that a 1997 Honda Civic was headed north on Pompey Center Road when it veered off of the pavement and crashed into a utility pole. The crash was reported to Onondaga County 911 around 2:54 a.m. and took place near the intersection with Broadfield Road. Ackerman says the car rolled over several times before stopping in the front yard of 4474 Pompey Center Road.

Ackerman says the driver of the car was 23-year-old Marissa Ahlsen, of Manlius. She was the only person in the car. No word on the exact cause of the crash at this time.

National Grid responded to the scene to check on the pole, but no power outages were reported in the area Monday morning.

The investigation into the crash remains open.
