Owner of Syracuse head shop Twisted Headz arrested in bath salts case

The owner of a Syracuse head shop is spending 60 days in jail for selling synthetic drugs known as "bath salts" after a judge ordered him to stop.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that Gary Schiffer, owner of Twisted Headz, was led from state Supreme Court in handcuffs Monday. He was found in contempt of court for violating an order to stop selling the substances in mislabeled containers.

The state attorney general's office says federal agents investigating an unrelated matter earlier this year found that Schiffer was selling homemade drugs made from leaves of the marsh mallow sprayed with an unknown chemical. The dried product was sold in packets labeled "Xtreme Rampage."
