Palmer Elementary School honors veterans
Recognizing those who have served our country — that's what the day was all about for students at Palmer Elementary School in Baldwinsville.
The school board president, Jeff Marier, is especially touched. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years, and thinks today serves as an important lesson for the children.
"Service to their country is just something we really want them to understand, you know, find a way to give back, " he said.
His 10-year-old son, Nathan, and his godson, Alex, were there today to recognize him, along with other students and their veterans.
"I'm very proud that he served in the Air Force. It feels good to honor those veterans who served," Nathan said.
The students decorated the school with hearts, stars and pictures of their favorite veterans. Alex made his godfather a star with a picture.
This is the first year the school has done something like this, but the hope is that this will become a tradition.
"It's neat to be recognized by our children, and our grandchildren, and things like that," Marier said.
