An economic development group says this summer's PGA Championship at a suburban Rochester country club will pump tens of millions of dollars into the local economy.
Greater Rochester Enterprise says it's projecting a $78 million economic impact on the Rochester area from the 2013 PGA Championship to be held Aug. 5-11 at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford. The organization says its study predicts more than 1,100 jobs will be added to support the event.
The study says construction, service industries and real estate are expected to receive the biggest boost from the tournament, one of the four major championships on the pro golf tour.
Oak Hill last hosted the PGA Championship in 2003. The nearby Locust Hill Country Club annually hosts the LPGA Championship, being held this year June 3-9.
