People in Onondaga County are getting calls that the Sheriff's department says are coming from scammers who want your money. The phone number that comes up on caller ID is from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Warrants Unit. The number is 315-435-3032. It is not clear how the culprits are manipulating caller ID, but the calls are not coming from local law enforcement.
The person calling tells you there is a warrant out for your arrest and you have 45 minutes to resolve the issue or the police will come to arrest you. The caller gives a new number to call: 904-410-2217, and states that it is the Treasury Department. When the victim calls that number, no one answers, however their phone call is immediately returned. The victims are told that they owe money that must be paid with a GreenDot MoneyPak card or they will go to jail.
