A Chadwicks man is charged with stealing from the Sears store where he was an employee.
New Hartford police say they received a complaint about an internal theft at the Sears in Sangertown Mall. Police say the Sears loss prevention department had been conducting an internal investigation into one of their employees in regard to false returns that had been conducted over the last few months.
A false return is when merchandise is returned for cash without the original buyer being present during the transaction.
Police say the investigation revealed the store had lost more than $3,000 from these false returns.
Police charged Steven F. Forte, 36, of Chadwicks with falsifying business records and grand larceny, both felonies.
Forte was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court and was released pending a future court date.
