A tow truck driver is dead after he was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway late Sunday night.

The crash took place around 11:05 p.m. between exit 34 in Canastota and 34A in East Syracuse, according to State Police. Police say it was happened on the south shoulder of Interstate 90 east at mile post marker 275 in the Town of Manlius.

The accident involved a tandem tractor-trailer and a tow truck, according to investigators. The tractor-trailer sideswiped the tow truck while the operator was attempting to hook up a car to be towed.

The tow-truck operator was killed. Police have identified him as 53-year-old Todd S. Young of Mattydale. Young was the owner and operator of Northern Lights Towing in Mattydale.

The disabled vehicle was operated by Kevin M. Woloszyn, age 20, of Delevan, NY. Woloszyn was not injured in the accident.

Our crew at the scene reported the tractor-trailer rolled over and was on its side in a ditch when police arrived.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 40-year-old Kurt R. Brown of Herkimer, has been ticketed for an unsafe lane change. He is employed by Estes Express on Schuyler Road in East Syracuse.

      The crash remains under investigation.

      The Thruway has fully reopened.
