State Police report one person was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle in the Town of Van Buren Wednesday morning.
Troopers say 44-year-old Steven Teachout of Baldwinsville was riding his motorcycle south on State Fair Boulevard around 7:15 a.m. when a minivan driven 26-year-old Sonya Phillips of Solvay turned into his path at the intersection with Daisy Drive. Police say Teachout was unable to react in time to avoid the van and slammed into its side door. Teachout was transported to Upstate University Hospital where he later died.
State Fair Boulevard, also known as State Route 48, was closed in the vicinity of Daisy Drive and Farrell Road while investigators and emergency personnel worked at the crash scene.
Trooper James Moynihan told reporters Phillips was driving with a suspended license, with several past suspensions. Police later confirmed that number as 'at least six'. "I'm sure charges are pending... but as far as the specific charges, we won't know until the investigation is concluded," Moynihan said.
When asked if the sun could have blinded the driver, Moynihan pointed out she was driving north so the sun would have been behind her.
Phillips was ticketed and is due in Van Buren Town Court on November 8. Police say their investigation is continuing.
