Police say Clay woman lied about rape
State Police in Lysander want the public to know that there is not an alleged rapist in their community.
Troopers say on October 17 a woman from the Town of Clay called in a report that she had been forcibly raped. She alleged that she had been walking on Shoveler Lane in Clay when a masked man forced her to a secluded area, where she said he sexually assaulted her.
Police say they conducted several interviews in the area, and concluded that the incident did not occur. They say the woman has since recanted her story. Police say they want to get the word out to ease any concerns in the community.
Police say their investigation into the case continues. They have not released the woman's name.
