Police say they believe car found in Oswego River was Carol Wood's

Recorvery crews pull the Toyota Corolla out of the Oswego River Friday afternoon.

Authorities say a car they pulled from an upstate New York river matches a vehicle that belonged to a woman who disappeared 18 years ago.

Police say human remains were found in the red 1993 Toyota Corolla, which has been taken to Syracuse for forensic testing. State Canal Corp. workers mapping a stretch of the Oswego River with sonar located the car Thursday.

Carol Wood of Oswego has been missing since leaving a city bar around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 4, 1996. Police say she had an argument with a man she'd been dating. The 30-year-old Wood left the bar alone and was last seen getting into a red, four-door 1993 Toyota Corolla.

Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd says Monday that police believe that the car is Wood's.
