Police say woman's death was by accidental shooting

The scene at Glahn Avenue last Sunday

Police in Syracuse say a woman who was killed in a shooting last weekend was shot by accident.

At a news conference Friday morning, Chief Frank Fowler spoke about the investigation into the death of 25-year-old Morgan McMahon of Fairfield Avenue in Syracuse. McMahon was shot Sunday in the 100 block of Glahn Avenue on the city TMs south side. She died Monday afternoon.

Officers say McMahon was riding in a minivan with three other people when the van hit a bump in the road and a gun inside went off, striking McMahon. Police say the four individuals had just participated in a drive-by shooting and were fleeing that scene when the accident took place.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the shooting of McMahon. 23-year-old Deon Farley of West Castle Street is charged with second degree criminally negligent homicide and second degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Syracuse City Court Friday morning.

Also changed in the incident is 26-year-old Shikim Weston of Warner Avenue, who was arrested for second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

McMahon's shooting was the third shooting in Syracuse in less than 24 hours over the past weekend.
