Police search for killer in homicide in Syracuse's Hawley Green neighborhood

Syracuse police have identified the victim of a homicide Thursday afternoon in the Hawley Green neighborhood.

Police say Johanna Pagan, 38, was found dead in a vacant apartment after neighbors heard her screaming for help around 3:45 p.m.

Police say they were called to the apartment after neighbors heard Pagan screaming for help. Officials say a person was seen running from the home.

The Rural Metro ambulance rushed to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead within a half hour of the initial call.

Police say it appears Pagan was stabbed to death, but the exact cause of death will be determined by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner.

A suspect hasn't been caught yet, but according to police, a suspect was seen running from the scene.

Officers taped off the home on Gertrude Street where the attack took place. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information about the attack to come forward and to call investigators at 442-5222. All calls will be kept confidential.
