State Police now say the man accused of killing a 6-year-old girl in Sherrill cut his wrists and stabbed himself in the chest after assaulting the little girl.
It happened Tuesday at a home on Primo Avenue.
David Trebilcock also suffered stab wounds to his back. Police say they were most likely caused by the child's mother who was trying to stop the attack.
Police say 36-year-old Alison Belius woke up to her daughter's screams for help. Authorities say Trebilcock, Belius' live-in boyfriend, barricaded himself in the bedroom with a dresser, which Belius had to shove aside to get into the room and stop the attack.
Police say the weapon used was a kitchen-style steak knife.
Investigators say they've found no history of mental health issues for Trebilcock.
An autopsy on 6-year-old Lauren Belius was conducted Wednesday. The cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds.
Neighbors came together Tuesday night in Sherrill to remember the little girl.
Trebilcock will be charged with second degree murder once he's released from the hospital, where he has been placed under guard.
