Police: Utica man robs PetSmart employee at knifepoint
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- A Utica man is under arrest robbing a PetSmart cashier at knifepoint, according to New Hartford Police.
On Friday afternoon, police were called to Pet Smart on Commercial Drive for a reported armed robbery.
After arriving to the scene, 27-year-old Julio Ramos-Perez and 25-year-old William Jose Antonetti-Fontanez, both from Utica, led officers on a short foot pursuit which ended with their arrest.
Witnesses told police that Perez held a cashier from the pet store at knifepoint and stole $275 in cash.
After obtaining a search warrant for Perez, officers recovered the stolen cash, the clothing Perez was wearing at the time of the robbery and other possible stolen property and drug paraphernalia.
Perez is now facing charges of robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing. He was arraigned in court and sent to the Oneida County Jail with bail set at $10,000 cash or bond.
Antonetti-Fontanez was turned over to the Utica Police Department where he was wanted on an unrelated arrest warrant.
