Police: Utica woman charged under Leandra's Law after crashing into a police car

A Utica woman is charged after police say she hit a Utica Police cruiser while driving drunk with a 10-year-old in the car.

Utica Police Officer Charles Goldstein was responding to an alarm call while driving south on York Street.

Witnesses tell police that a vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Mary Jo Edick was traveling north on York when it drifted into the officerâ??s lane. The cars collided, causing severe damage to both.

Edickâ??s vehicle continued in the wrong lane went off the road and came to rest in the lawn of the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center. Police say her 10-year-old son was in the car.

Police say Officer Goldstein may have lost consciousness in the collision. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators are currently reconstructing the accident scene.

Mary Jo Edick was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI under Leandraâ??s Law and endangering the welfare of a child.

More charges could be coming as the investigation continues.
