Portion of Route 31 in Clay closed for railroad work

A portion of State Route 31 in Clay will be closed for two days this week, according to CSX.

State Route 31 between Caughdenoy Road and Henry Clay Boulevard closed Monday, August 19, at 9:00 a.m. It will reopen Tuesday, August 20, at 3:00 p.m.

There will be a posted detour for motorists to follow.

CSX says the road will be open to local traffic up to the crossing and access to all businesses will be maintained.

CSX says the closure is necessary so they can replace a highway crossing on the rail line between Syracuse and Montreal. CSX will excavate the old crossing surface and replace it with a new precast concrete crossing and paved approaches.

During the closure, CSX says the road will be repaved on each side of the crossing to create a smoother riding surface.
