Power outages across Central New York after severe weather

is reporting approximately 17,000 customers without power in the wake of severe weather that swept through the Syracuse area just after 6:30 p.m.

Areas where businesses and homes are without power include Dewitt, Fayetteville, Manlius, the east side of Syracuse. The Valley section of Syracuse was also hit hard as one of the most intense storm cells passed through that area just before 7:00.

Customers in the area of Marietta and Otisco in southwestern Onondaga County also were hit hard be weather and are without electricity. Estimates for restoration extend out for several hours as late as 11:00 p.m.

Several hundred NYSEG customers in the Finger Lakes are without power including customers in Cayuga and Seneca counties.
