President Obama pays tribute to fallen Auburn soldier in Memorial Day speech

The President gave his annual Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery today, and in it made special mention of a soldier with Central New York ties who was killed in Afghanistan on May 4.

Staff Sergeant Frankie Phillips was a combat medic and was instrumental in saving lives on the battlefield, something the President noted by saying â??He was so humble, his parents never knew how many lives he saved until soldiers started showing up at his funeral from thousands of miles away.â??

You can watch the Presidentâ??s full speech here. He mentions Sgt. Phillips starting at the 7:29 mark.

Phillips was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, but not before his family and friends in Auburn said their goodbyes to the fallen hero.
