Protesters gather as Education Commissioner John King addresses Common Core

Parents organized a protest tonight outside of the WCNY studios to voice their displeasure with New York Education Commissioner Dr. John King, who traveled to Syracuse to hold a public forum on controversial Common Core standards.

Parents, teachers and education board members had an opportunity to ask King questions in the hour-long forum, which was broadcast live on WCNY.

Common Core has become a touchy subject since its inception last year. The program stresses analytical thinking but many feel that the new standards place too much emphasis on testing.

This was the first of four scheduled public forums. Click here to stream the complete program.
