      Rabies alert in Marcellus after raccoon tests positive for disease

      There is a rabies alert in the town of Marcellus. The Onondaga County Health department says a raccoon tested positive for rabies.

      The raccoon was found near West Seneca Turnpike. They said this is the first rabies case of the season in the county.

      Rabies is a deadly disease which rarely can be cured once someone has the symptoms. It can take several weeks to experience symptoms.

      Any contact with an animal from an attack should be treated immediately.
