Red Cross closes Herkimer shelter, reopens Utica shelter for flood victims

More flooding in Herkimer County Monday forced the Red Cross to close its shelter in the Village of Herkimer and reopen the shelter in Utica.

The shelter in Utica is at the Mohawk Valley Community College. The Red Cross says the shelter is open to all Mohawk Valley residents who had to evacuate their homes because of the severe flooding that began Friday. Red Cross had closed the shelter Sunday because residents displaced by the floods no longer needed to stay there.

On Monday, heavy rains caused even more flooding and displaced more people from their homes.

The Red Cross shelter that opened in the City of Oneida Friday night is still open to those impacted by the flooding. That shelter is located at the YMCA in the City of Oneida.
