Remains found in Mohawk River confirmed as Baby Levon Wameling

Utica Police have confirmed that remains found in the Mohawk River earlier this month are those of missing baby Levon Wameling

Utica Police are confirming that the remains found in a container in the Mohawk River on Friday, September 6 are those of missing infant Levon Wameling.

In a statement early Saturday afternoon, Utica Police say the confirmation comes after extensive DNA testing by the NYS Forensic Investigative Center, but that the investigation is not closed. "The Utica Police continue to investigate this case, with the hope that the truth will be learned and the person(s) responsible are held accountable."

The baby's father, Jevon Wameling, reported him missing in June, two weeks after the 9-month old was last seen at his Jay Street home, and has been a person of interest in the case since. He is currently in jail on unrelated burglary charges.

Divers recovered the infants remains on September 6th and at that time the baby's mother said it was her son.
