Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman is being remembered this Saturday, the third anniversary of his death, in the line of duty.
Deputy Wyman was part of a team at a standoff in Knoxboro. He was approaching the man, who'd been holed up in a garage, with orders to taze him, when the man fired and fatally wounded Wyman. Christian Patterson is now serving life in prison, with no possibility of parole.
Wyman was a Marine Corps veteran who'd been with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department for four year. He had an 18-month old son at the time of his death, and when his wife heard the bad news she went into labor and gave birth to a daughter.
Today's memorial, at 8:30am at the Law Enforcement Building on Judd Road in Oriskany, that has been named in honor of Wyman.
