Reported shooting in Newfield briefly locks down Newfield School District

Schools in the Newfield School District were briefly on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a report of a shooting in Newfield.

Dr. Cheryl Thomas, Superintendent for Newfield School District, says the schools were locked down for about 45 minutes after law enforcement reported a shooting in Newfield.

The Newfield School District has about 825 students on one campus. Newfield is about 9 miles southwest of Ithaca.

The Tompkins County Sheriffâ??s Office says deputies were dispatched to a trailer park at 150 Depot Way in the Town of Newfield for a report of two males that had been shot.

The victims were identified as Cory Heffron, 26, and Matthew Dewey, 27, both of Newfield. Both victims are reported as being in stable condition at a local hospital. Injuries are minor.

Deputies say the suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Donnell Harrison of Newfield.

The case is still under investigation.
