Rescuers find missing Sennett woman

Command post set up at Sennett Fire Dept. for Erin Carmody search

Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies say a missing Sennett woman has been found. Deputies tell us the woman is being transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

27-year-old Erin Carmody, of 7427 Parcell Road, had been missing since Sunday night.

After someone watched the media coverage of the story, investigators got a tip and found her walking along the railroad tracks at Vinegar Hill Rd. in the town of Elbridge.

Sheriff David Gould says she was found 10 to 15 miles from where she started. Investigators believe she walked all night despite temperatures well below freezing.

She was previouly last seen walking her dog, a Siberian Husky, between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday. The dog returned to her home around 6 a.m. Monday, but Carmody was nowhere to be found.

"Usually when she does walk, from what we've been told, the dog is always with her," says Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould. "That's what made me and my detectives and my road patrol very suspicious about her not returning when the dog did."

Deputies say there was an active search for Carmody staged at the Town of Sennett Fire House on Franklin Street Road near Cherry Street. A New York State Police helicopter also helped out with the search.
