Rise in urgent care visits during the holidays
With just ten days until Christmas, holiday cheer is all around in Clinton Square, but the holidays also mean there are plenty of people visiting urgent care too.
Five Star Urgent Care says that December is a busy month for them and other clinics around central New York.
They say aside from ample cases of the flu and respiratory infections, there are some seasonal ailments too.
Doctors say people fall while trying to decorate the top of their Christmas trees, or fall walking outside on the ice.
Some people even take a trip to the emergency room after wrapping presents.
"So scissors, a sharp edge of a tape dispenser, even just a good paper cut from the wrapping papers can all be injuries that need attention, maybe some suturing or something like that. So, sometimes it is necessary to seek treatment for those types of injuries," Jenn Baldwin, a family nurse practitioner said.
When asked if there were any other times urgent care sees an influx of people, they say around the Fourth of July, due to fireworks.
