Robbery and assault under investigation in Syracuse

Syracuse Police are investigating a robbery and assault that happened Monday morning around 2 a.m.

Police say it was possibly in the area of Gifford Street and Niagara Street.

The victim is a man in his 20's and told police he was walking to a store when a group of men called out to him.

One of the men approached him and hit him in the face with a handgun. The victim says he was knocked out and woke up to find a group of men kicking him in the head.

The victim says the suspects stole his Michael Jordan sneakers, a blue t-shirt and money.

They ran away in an unknown direction. The victim left the area to get help. Police checked the area but couldn't find the exact location of the robbery.

The victim was brought to Upstate University Hospital and is recovering from cuts and bruises.
