Rochester man found guilty in fatal shooting

A 26-year-old man has been convicted of killing another man and wounding his brother after the siblings walked past a dice game in a Rochester neighborhood.

The Monroe County District Attorney's Office says a jury on Wednesday convicted Charles Perkins of second-degree murder and first-degree assault for his role in the shooting of Robert and Devon Vinson in May 2012.

Prosecutors say the brothers were walking home when they passed a dice game. Several men broke away from the game, ran after the Vinsons and began beating them.

Officials say Perkins joined in the beating, then grabbed a gun dropped by one of the assailants. Perkins fatally shot 26-year-old Robert Vinson and severely wounded his 24-year-old brother.

The man who dropped the gun faces trial this month.
