The Route 11 bridge over the Oneida River is back open to traffic in both directions, the State Department of Transportation announced Friday evening. There is a 20 ton weight restriction in place.
State crews installed a temporary "carrier" beam in the northbound shoulder (the northbound shoulder will remain closed). The DOT says a more permanent repair to the deteriorated floor beam truss connection will be made in the near future.
Vehicles over the 20 ton limit must use an alternate route. The state suggests Bartel Road, I-81 and State route 49.
The bridge, which carries more than 12,000 cars every weekday was closed Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure after inspectors found ??significant deterioration in a steel connection area?? on one of the beams.
