Runners in Central New York are a hardy crew. Fleet Feet running coach and national caliber marathoner Fred Joslyn says most days of the winter runners who are dressed correctly can get outside to train.
Fred offered CNYCentral's Matt Mulcahy some tips for people who are new to running to get moving during the winter. Joslyn said it's important to make your training part of your daily schedule. He points to a training partner or a running program as a great way to be accountable to any fitness goals.
He started February's Ready, Set, Run segment by encouraging those who are not very active to simply get moving. Start with walking. Extend the amount of time. And, eventually move up to running.
Once a person is running they should set a routine and set goals. Joslyn says just about everyone can learn to run and make progress even when setting a goal of running an initial 5K.
