Political, business and community leaders in Saratoga County and the city of Saratoga Springs say Tuesday that hotel room occupancy tax revenues were up 3.5 percent from last year to $327,000 for the county, and 4.1 percent to $1.15 million for the city, both records.
That's for the period from June 1 to Aug. 31, the middle months of Saratoga's five-month celebration of the 150th anniversary of its first thoroughbred racing season in 1863.
Total attendance at Saratoga Race Course dipped slightly compared to 2012. But tourism flourished this summer as visitors flocked to Saratoga's popular downtown business and entertainment district and other attractions.
The racing season ran from July 19 through Labor Day.
