A seaplane pilot had a lucky escape after his aircraft took an unlucky dip in one of New York's Finger Lakes.
The Ontario County Sheriff's office says 71-year-old Joseph Bell was uninjured when his 1980 Cessna flipped over in Canandaigua Lake while preparing to take off Saturday morning.
The pilot was able to free himself from the aircraft and was brought to shore by area residents who witnessed the accident. A sheriff's patrol boat was on the scene quickly to secure the overturned plane, which was later removed from the water.
The sheriff's office says Bell was checked out by medics but didn't need to be taken to the hospital.
