Search planned for Scriba crash victim

Ray Gregory

The family of Ray Gregory is still optimistic they will find him alive and well.

Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say the man was in a car crash Sunday morning on County Route 53 in Scriba. Deputies say he may have walked away from the crash.

Ray's daughter, Courtney Gregory, says her family has put up more than 1,000 flyers with his information across Oswego County from Phoenix to the city of Oswego. She has also started a Facebook page with information about the search posted on it.

"I have no reason to believe the worst until you can prove it to me," says Courtney Gregory.

Ray Gregory was last seen at Lighthouse Lanes, where he was bowling. The business has put up flyers in the window to help with the search.

"I've known him for a long time," says co-owner Bob Hoefer. "He's always been a pleasure to be around, a fun, energetic guy."

Hoefer says he spoke with Ray the night he disappeared, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Ray even spoke about his plans to bowl the following day.

Investigators will take part in a large scale search of the crash scene area this upcoming Saturday. Search crews will spend the day looking, but will stop at dusk if they don't find Gregory.

Oswego County Undersheriff Gene Sullivan has told CNYCentral there are indications Gregory was injured in the crash, and investigators are concerned for his well being.
