State Police in Norwich arrested a Sherburne man for over 100 counts of animal cruelty.
Troopers say they saw several cows at a farm on Casey Cheese Factory Road in the Town of Columbus that were weak and malnourished, and others that had died. Frozen waterlines left the animals with no water, and they had not been fed.
Dr. Christine Scneider, a licensed veterinarian agreed to assist the state police with examining the cows. She confirmed that cows were suffering from emaciation, dehydration, and respiratory infection.
48-year-old Michael Thomsen was charged with 110 counts of cruelty to animals and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 bail. Family members agreed to take care of the cows, and the Chenango County District Attorney's Office will be looking into a process to remove the cows.
