Shoplifter charged for involvement in stolen check scheme in New Hartford

New Hartford Police arrested a man Wednesday after he was caught shoplifting by a Sears Department Store employee. When police arrived, the discovered their suspect wasn't who he claimed to be.
Marc Czternastek, 38, falsely represented himself with a Connecticut Divers License with a different name. But the responding patrolman was familiar with the suspect from a different investigation regarding a stolen check. Police determined that Czternastek had stolen a check from a business's mailbox in New Hartford and cashed the check at a Utica bank.
Czternastek was arrested for grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged insturment, petit larceny and false personation. He was remanded to Oneida County Jail on $5,000 bail. More charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
