Skaneateles Football accused of recruiting violations

The Skaneateles school district has provided Section III with a 5-page report that tries to show that the district's varsity coaches tried to illegally recruit students to play football at Skaneateles High School.

The Football team's head coach Tim Green is a former Syracuse University and pro football player, and told the Associated Press earlier this week that he and his coaches never tried to recruit another player. Green said, "It's unfortunate, but that's life. Sometimes, things like this happen, but I have not let it take any enjoyment out of this. I've been determined and grateful for the players and coaches I have."

The Post Standard reports that coaches from Skaneateles tried to illegally recruit at least nine players from other schools over the past two school years. Skaneateles is undefeated on the season so far this season, and will play Utica-Notre Dame in round two of the Section III playoffs this Saturday.

A Section III official told CNY Central that the executive committee meeting to discuss the report has been rescheduled for Friday.

Phil D'Angelo, Skaneateles Superintendent, said the district will hear the results on Monday.

Calls to Green on Wednesday night have not yet been returned.
