In Skaneateles Monday morning, it was a tidal wave of ice buckets, dumped one after another, soaking hundreds of people.
Those hundreds turned out at Austin Park to take part in a community ALS ice bucket challenge, all to support Tom Ruhlman, who has battled the disease for seven years.
Jen Savage, an organizer for the event, says the goal is to raise money and awareness about ALS, and show their support for the Ruhlman family.
"We wanted to jump on the heels of the craze that's taken the nation like a tidal wave, but we wanted to put a new twist on it as a community to show our support for one of the members of the community," she says.
Organizers of the event have now challenged the towns of Manlius, Spafford and Liverpool to take part in their own versions of the ice bucket challenge.
