Snowmobile pulled from Oneida Lake; people warned to stay off ice during warm weather
TOWN OF SULLIVAN, N.Y. —
Firefighters say a snowmobile rider is okay after a scare on Oneida Lake Thursday morning.
The Bridgeport Fire Department says a man's snowmobile went into the water when he tried to cross a "pressure crack" on the surface of the lake when the ice broke, sending his snowmobile into the water.
The rider was able to stay afloat on the snowmobile while he waited for rescuers. The snowmobile had to be pulled from the lake; the rider was not injured.
With temperatures approaching 50 degrees in much of Central New York, firefighters at the scene urged people to stay off the ice.
