Manlius man identified as victim of deadly Homer snowmobile accident

A fatal snowmobile accident remains under investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to Homer on reports of the incident, 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. The one snowmobile involved was traveling north on Chapman Road Snowmobile Trail S57. The operator, 45-year-old Franklin E. Mills Jr. of Manlius, was riding alone and is the victim.

Investigators say it appears Mills lost control of his snowmobile while riding north on the trail. The reason why he lost control is unknown at this time. The accident remains under investigation.

This is the third snowmobile-related fatality of the weekend in our viewing area.
