South Carolina murder suspect arrested in Rome
Police in Rome say a murder suspect wanted by authorities in South Carolina has been arrested.
Police say they were contacted by the Lexington County, South Carolina Sheriffâ??s Department regarding a murder investigation in their jurisdiction on Wednesday. Deputies believed that murder suspect 24 year-old John Christopher Hart, a South Carolina resident, may have ties to the Rome, New York area.
Rome Police began a surveillance of a house located on the 400 block of Williams Street and at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Hart was observed walking from the residence.
Hart was taken into custody on the 400 block of West Thomas Street without incident and taken to Rome Police Headquarters. He is being held as a fugitive form justice pending extradition proceedings.
Hart is charged with murder in the shooting death of 43-year-old Paula Justice on April 10. Deputies say Justice was meeting with Hart when she was shot. They have not said what the meeting was about.
Two men repossessing a car found Justice. She had been shot once in the chest.
Hartâ??s ties to the Rome area as well his activities since arriving are still being investigated.
